Bianca Andreescu Targets Return to Tennis at Indian Wells After Six-Month Hiatus

Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, has disclosed her intention to make a comeback during the upcoming Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami next month.

The 23-year-old Canadian’s last competitive appearance was at a WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal in August, where she faced a 6-3, 6-2 defeat to Camila Giorgi in the first round. Throughout the match, Andreescu visibly struggled with a back issue but chose not to retire, displaying resilience in front of her home fans.

Having missed the US Open and the entirety of the 2023 season, Andreescu officially withdrew from the Australian Open in mid-December. Eager to return to action, she sets her sights on participating in Indian Wells, commencing on March 6th.

While the 2019 Indian Wells champion acknowledges her recovery is not at 100%, Andreescu remains optimistic about her potential comeback, emphasizing the importance of not rushing her rehabilitation.

“I’m really hoping that I can play Indian Wells. It’s getting there. It’s not 100%, but I’m doing everything I can to be ready,” shared Andreescu in an interview with TSN.

Engaging in visualization work and meditation, Andreescu recognizes the significance of rest in healing from her injury, emphasizing the necessity of patience in the recovery process.

Reflecting on her experience watching the Australian Open from the sidelines, Andreescu admitted that it was challenging to observe others playing while unable to participate. However, she expressed joy in reconnecting with the tennis world and shared her thoughts on Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner’s victories, noting that Sabalenka’s success did not surprise her, while Sinner’s triumph positively caught her off guard.

If Andreescu returns to compete in Indian Wells, it will mark her fourth appearance in the desert tournament, and fans eagerly await her comeback to the tennis scene. 🌟🎾 #BiancaAndreescu #IndianWellsReturn #TennisComeback #SunshineDouble #VisitNintenn #TennisNews 🌐👟🏆
